Graduates from the 2017 class of the San Marcos Fire Department’s Citizens Fire Academy accepted their diplomas during the academy’s seventh graduation ceremony on November 6. Citizens Fire Academy is a challenging 12-week program (not a certification course), that introduces its cadets to the operations and some of the rigorous training that the San Marcos firefighters undergo. The course also gives them an opportunity to become certified in CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) use.
City employee graduates were: Ryan Hartman, Brittney Herbelin, Vincent De Luna, Roxie Luna, Pina Rodriguez, and Robert Rodriguez.
After graduation, they can become involved in the Alumni Association which interacts with the department in promoting public education and awareness in fire and life safety. The next academy is accepting applications for Fall 2018. http://sanmarcostx.gov/597/Citizens-Fire-Academy.
