San Marcos Transit
The City of San Marcos Transit division provides top quality, professional, effective and timely transit services to the community through our partnership with Capital Area Rural Transportation Systems (CARTS).
CARTS recently introduced five new buses to the fleet serving San Marcos, now called SMTX THE BUS. SMTX THE BUS is a newer, cleaner, greener city bus system that will revolutionize San Marcos transit. The new buses double as a mobile office with free Wi-Fi on board. All buses are equipped with a bike rack for up to two bikes, space available on a first come first serve basis.
San Marcos "The Bus" routes will remain fare-free until further notice as a response to COVID-19.
San Marcos "The Bus" COVID-19 Updates
- Local service will run from 7 am - 6 pm
- Local routes will remain fare-free until further notice
- Masks are recommended while riding local routes
- Social distancing is encouraged by skipping a seat between riders
- Interurban routes will collect fares
- Facemasks are required at the San Marcos Station and on Interurban routes
For more information, please visit CARTS or call (512) 805-7433
