Home Smoke Detector Program
The SMFD goal is to have smoke detectors in every home in San Marcos. In the event of a fire, a smoke alarm can save your life and those of your loved ones.

The purpose is to help the citizens of San Marcos be aware of the services that the Fire Department provides, increase fire and life safety awareness, and promote a positive image of the department to the community.

9/11 Events
Every year, the City of San Marcos and the San Marcos Fire Department hosts two events commemorating the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. These events include a public flag raising ceremony, followed by a memorial stair climb. Participation in the memorial stair climb is limited to local first responders, but members of the public are invited to attend and observe the event.

Junior Fire Academy
Junior Fire Academy summer camp is a chance for children to learn about some of the daily operations of the San Marcos Fire Department, and have some fun in the process.

Fired Up About Reading
The San Marcos Fire Department enjoys reading hot stories and bringing cool trucks to the City Library!

October Fire Prevention Month-Open House
The event was an enormous hit with free food, fire truck rides, safety demonstrations, vendors handed out emergency or other local information, emergency vehicles and helicopter displays, and child ID kits to name a few.

Central Texas Medical Center has provided a form with important health information to help first responders alert them of any drug allergies or other health conditions that would assist them to safely manage your care.

Resident Assistant Training
The San Marcos Fire Department has formed a partnership with Texas State University to promote fire safety training for staff and Resident Assistants (RA's) of dormitories at the beginning of Fall and Spring semesters.

Pancakes with Santa
On the second Saturday in December, the doors of Fire Station No. 5 open to the public for our Annual Pancakes with Santa event. This event helps to raise funds for the following year's Fire Academy programs by providing adequate gear and equipment to the academy participants. We will have photo opportunities with Santa, our fire apparatus, and our Fire Personnel as well. And of course, we'll have plenty of pancakes!

Baby Moses Information
The "Baby Moses Law" allows a parent of a baby younger than 60 days old to turn over the baby to a designated emergency infant care provider.
