Housing

The City of San Marcos Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds several housing programs available to San Marcos residents. These programs are available to households that earn less than 80% of the Area Median Income. Click here to see income guidelines.

Local CDBG funded housing initiatives include:

Homebuyer Assistance Program assists with down payments and closing costs for homes located in San Marcos.

Housing Rehabilitation Program provides up to $50,000 for single family home rehabilitation or repair.

Homebuyer Education is provided through free virtual classes every 4th Saturday, and free individual homeownership counseling, both hosted by Austin Habitat for Humanity.

Demolition Assistance is available for homes, sheds, and garages on single family residential property.

Rent and Utilities Assistance is provided through a program administered by Blanco River Regional Recovery Team. This program can provide up to 3 months rent and utilities assistance.

State Affordable Housing Initiatives 

The City of San Marcos participates in the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs Housing Tax Credit  Program that offers incentives for the development of affordable rental multi-family projects.
