Melissa Derrick - Place 6
Melissa Derrick was re-elected to the San Marcos City Council on Nov. 6, 2018. She was first elected on November 3, 2015 for a three-year term in Place 6.
Born in West Virginia, she has called San Marcos home for 32 years, and worked at Texas State University for over 20 years.
Councilmember Derrick has served as a Neighborhood Commissioner for Sector 2, Charter Review Co-Chair in 2014, and treasurer for the Board of Advisors at the Katherine Anne Porter School in Wimberley. She has also served on the Boards for the Greater San Marcos Partnership and the Convention and Visitors Bureau.
She is currently a member of the Early Childhood Coalition of Hays County, San Marcos River Foundation, the Heritage Association, the Commission on Children and Youth, a board member of Community Action, and one of three Council members serving on the committee for Affordable & Workforce Housing.
Derrick is focused on preserving the City's natural resources, protecting neighborhood integrity, and responsibly managing the growth of the City. She is also a passionate advocate for improving the lives of our citizens with disabilities, as well as our families and youth.
Melissa and her husband are proud parents of two native San Marcans, currently students at the University of Texas and St. Edwards University. They own a computer repair and resale business in San Marcos, and are ardent supporters of local business.
