The San Marcos Fire Department has formed a partnership with Texas State University to promote fire safety training for staff and Resident Assistants (RAs) of dormitories at the beginning of Fall and Spring semesters. The primary focus of the training is to provide instruction about emergency evacuation, emergency response and fire fighting procedures in case of emergency on campus.
Our Firefighters teach fire extinguisher training, smoke evacuation exercises, bunker gear familiarization and the "Consequences of Fire." One mistake, such as forgetting to blow out a candle, can have tragic repercussions in a dormitory setting. We want the RA's to remind students to unplug electric appliances, to never smoke inside, to be aware of fire exits and, lastly, if the fire alarm sounds, evacuate - don't assume it's a mistake.
With the help of the RA's, Texas State students are better prepared in case of emergency!
