Funding Opportunities

The Planning and Development Services Department is currently accepting applications for two funding opportunities! Applications may be submitted by non-profit organizations, a public housing authority, government agencies, and City departments.

  • Due June 6: Applications for Coronavirus Relief Programs and Projects: The City is seeking applications from potential recipients of Coronavirus Relief-General Fund Grants for the creation or expansion of programs or projects that assist people who have been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic or related economic shutdowns. $640,000 total is available for distribution. Applications will be accepted through Sunday, June 6, 2021 at 12:00 a.m. Central Time, by email to cdbg@sanmarcostx.gov.
  • Due June 18: Applications for Annual CDBG Entitlement Programs and Projects: Applications are now open for the annual Community Development Block Grant Entitlement Program. A total of $823,415 is available to support eligible projects and program administration primarily benefitting low-to-moderate income residents in San Marcos. To be considered for funding, projects must satisfy a national CDBG program objective and should address one or more of the priority needs designated by the City: affordable housing, public services, or public facilities. Applications will be accepted through Friday, June 18, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. CST, by email to cdbg@sanmarcostx.gov.

Development Code Updates

Proposed amendments are currently being considered to the San Marcos Development Code. A summary of amendments is as follows and can be viewed in detail on the city webpage.

  • City Engineering Staff Recommendations
  • Residential Garage / Access Standards
  • Use of Self Storage and Outdoor Storage
  • Allowable uses in CD-2.5 and ND-3.2
  • Typographical Errors
The San Marcos City Council provided initial authorization approval of the updates on May 4, 2021 and the Planning and Zoning Commission approved the updates with amendments at their May 25 regular meeting. Vision SMTX

Vision SMTX Update

The City has been collecting community input on the Vision SMTX Comprehensive Plan Rewrite which will create the vision for the future of San Marcos for the next 20 years! The city has hosted over 15 events including a Virtual Open House, Community Workshop, and a series of steering committee, focus group, and informational presentations to organizations. Department Staff Updates


Danny Baker, Electrical Inspector

Danny recently relocated from the Houston area to San Marcos. He has over 25 years of construction experience including 8 years as a Master Electrician and 2 years as a licensed TREC (Texas Real Estate Commission) Home Inspector. He is also Infrared certified for inspections. He is a licensed drone pilot, YouTube fisherman, guitar player for 30 years, and family man. Danny hopes to finish his career in San Marcos and is enjoying public service.

Marc

Marc Flores, Combination Inspector

Originally from Edinburg, Texas, Marc moved to Nacogdoches and finally to Round Rock in 2015. He comes from a construction family with a strong background in framing. He started a career in inspections in 2004 conducting energy inspections for a non-profit. He was contacted by Burgess Construction Consultants in 2015 to train in the energy department and progressed to Vice President of commercial construction before starting his career in municipality inspections. Marc has been married for 20 years and has three kids and a granddaughter. In his free time, he loves salt and fresh-water fishing, camping, and traveling.

Amanda M

Amanda Mushinski, Planning Technician

Originally from Bryan-College Station, Amanda graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning. She comes to the City of San Marcos from Royse City, Texas where she was the Development Services Planning Coordinator. Amanda owns a cottage law bakery which was very successful during the pandemic. She also enjoys history, hosts a mythology and folklore podcast, and likes to watches How I Met Your Mother reruns with her cat Luna in her free time.

Department COVID-19 Update


City Reopening and Virtual Meetings

The Planning and Development Services Department is open to the public Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. We encourage customers to continue to use our 24/7 online permitting system at www.mygovernmentonline.org or to call to ask questions at 512.805.2630 (Permits) and 512.393.8230 (Planning) when possible.

All meetings, such as Pre-Developments, will remain virtual. Planning and Zoning Commission, Historic Preservation Commission, and Zoning Board of Adjustments meetings are being conducted online. Click here for information on how to view or participate in an upcoming meeting. Additional information and updates on COVID-19 can be found on the City's website.


Inspections

Our inspectors are continuing to keep our single family and commercial construction projects moving while also maintaining their safety by social distancing and hand washing. Our department is still offering video call inspection services as requested, through Skype, for any occupied homes that may prefer that route.
