Draft Preferred Scenario Map - Comments Due April 10!

The City of San Marcos is in the process of creating the Vision SMTX Comprehensive Plan and is collecting comments on the Draft Preferred Scenario Map to help guide and manage our future growth.

We invite you to learn about the Draft Preferred Scenario Map and participate in reviewing and commenting on the map!

Attend the Community Presentation

On Wednesday, April 6, the City will host a virtual community presentation of the Draft Map from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. During the meeting you'll be able to learn about the Draft Map and ask questions!

The City Council provided direction to rewrite the City’s current comprehensive plan, Vision San Marcos, originally adopted in 2013. This comprehensive plan rewrite project, known as Vision SMTX, will establish the goals and vision for the future of San Marcos for the next 20 years. City Selected for National Housing Solutions Lab Network

The City of San Marcos was selected to join the Housing Solutions Lab Peer Cities Network!

The nationally funded initiative offers small and midsize cities from across the country an opportunity to work together to address pressing housing challenges and develop innovative, equitable solutions with a specific focus on racial and health equity through shared resources, research, and technical assistance.

The Planning Department applied to join the 2022 Peer Cities Network to develop and implement innovative housing solutions as the city continues to grow with an emphasis on achieving equity goals and understanding connections between housing, land use, and transportation. Fair Housing Month + Workshop!

April is National Fair Housing Month! This month, the City of San Marcos is hosting a Fair Housing Q&A with the Austin Tenants Council about housing discrimination and the services and protections that are available to help tenants enforce their right of equal access to fair, decent, and safe housing.

The event will take place on Wednesday, April 21, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. This event will be a hybrid event (in-person and virtual) in the San Marcos City Council Chambers located at 630 E Hopkins Street.

About Fair Housing Month: The Fair Housing Act was passed on April 11, 1968 by President Lyndon B Johnson. This law was designed to protect Americans from facing discrimination in selling or buying houses. It is also a basic human concept, and entitlement for people. The law recognizes that community residents have the right to be free of any form of discrimination and that people belonging to diverse backgrounds should be warmly welcomed as neighbors!

CM Allen Parkway receives "Great Street in Texas" Award!

CM Allen Parkway was named "Great Street in Texas" 2022 as part of the American Planning Association Texas Chapter's Great Places in Texas awards!

Department COVID-19 Update

City Offices are Open with Virtual Meetings

The Planning and Development Services Department is open to the public Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. We encourage customers to continue to use our 24/7 online permitting system at www.mygovernmentonline.org or to call to ask questions at 512.805.2630 (Permits) and 512.393.8230 (Planning) when possible.

All meetings, such as Pre-Developments, will remain virtual. Planning and Zoning Commission, Historic Preservation Commission, and Zoning Board of Adjustments meetings are being conducted as hybrid (in-person/virtual) meetings. Inspections

Our inspectors are continuing to keep our single family and commercial construction projects moving while also maintaining their safety by social distancing and hand washing. Our department is still offering video call inspection services as requested, through Skype, for any occupied homes that may prefer that route.
